Earlier this week IGN shared the first COMPLETE chapter of Charles Soule’s upcoming novel about the High Republic! (Find it here!)
What we know so far about the upcoming content for the High Republic era –
- Set 200 years before the events of the prequels. So not quite the Old Republic of legends!
- It will be a multimedia release! Currently just books (Sci-Fi, YA, and Kids) and comics have been announced.
- The High Republic was created by a group of authors and creators invited by Lucasfilm (and Disney, let’s be real) to come up with an entirely new concept and era
And that’s all we’re confirmed on so far. All of the releases for the High Republic era have been pushed back, this was confirmed back on May 26, 2020 in a Star Wars blog press release. Charles Soule is one of our Star Wars comic writers, having authored SW: Lando, SW: Obi-Wan & Anakin, SW: Poe Dameron, Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith, and SW: The Rise of Kylo Ren. Soule has written his own novels a well (The Oracle Year and Anyone) so this isn’t his first rodeo, but it will be his first Star Wars novel.
Soule’s Light of the Jedi is being marketed as the flagship book for the High Republic. It will be our first full release about this era. Scheduled to come out in January of 2021. Light of the Jedi will be an adult Sci-Fi novel; the same reading level as other SW novels such as Phasma, Thrawn, and Master & Apprentice. Additional releases that have been announced so far are at a YA or kids reading level. A Test of Courage from Justina Ireland will be a middle school aged novel and Into the Dark from Claudia Gray will be a YA novel.
Many of us were hoping that there would be more content revealed at Star Wars Celebration this year. We cannot wait to really sink our teeth into High Republic.
