The main cast has finally been revealed for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series! A lot of familiar faces are in this recent release, some new faces to the universe and a few very satisfying surprises! The Kenobi series has been in pre-production in the UK for the past few months and will begin filming next month, in April. Deborah Chow is at the helm for directing the series.
In addition to the news of the full main cast, it’s been revealed that the story will take place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith! To pop that into a existing timeline for you, that’s 5 years after the events in Jedi: Fallen Order and also roughly the same exact time as the main events of Solo: A Star Wars Story!
Let’s do a walkthrough!

Returning to the Galaxy-
- Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi. We all know this. We cannot have new live action Obi-Wan Kenobi content without him. He has been the cornerstone of this entire project and will also be one of the executive producers!
- Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. Announced by Kathleen Kennedy back in December 2020 (during the Disney Investor day presentation) that he would be returning. We’re excited to see Vader in his prime, in the height of the Galactic Empire!
- Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars. An unexpected surprise with the news release today! Reprising his role from Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, we finally get to see Uncle Owen in his prime. (Is that a thing? We’re excited regardless!) Owen and Obi-Wan cross paths numerous times during Luke’s childhood, including a moment when Owen is hauled off by Black Krrsantan only to be saved by Obi-Wan later on…
- Bonnie Piesse as Beru Lars. Another unexpected, but totally saw this one coming, surprise! Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru are a pair that we cannot forget about as one of the best couples in Star Wars. A cult classic among fans, we’re very excited to see more from her in this series.
Newcomers to the Galaxy-
- Moses Ingram– Ingram is a relatively new actress, her breakout role was Jolene in the recent series The Queen’s Gambit. Which was incredible, and every scene with Jolene and Beth was absolutely perfect. We have no doubt Ingram will be an amazing addition to the galaxy! The popular fan theory at the moment is she may be playing a young Rae Sloane, but her role is still unconfirmed! Variety is reporting that she will play “a major role in the series.”
- Kumail Nanjiani – Nanjiani is one of the most recognizable faces here, at least out of the new to the galaxy cast, being most known as Dinesh from Silicon Valley and co-writing and starring in The Big Sick. Popular fan theory at the moment is an all grown-up Kitster. (You know, Anakin’s one friend from The Phantom Menace) Not to knock Kitster, but, Nanjiani could bring so much to the table more than a childhood friend of a Sith Lord. Actually, that might be perfect..
- Indira Varma – Varma is most known to general audiences for playing Ellaria Sand in Game of Thrones and more recently as well for Piety Breakspear in Carnival Row. Fans have been theorizing that she may be playing Asajj Ventress. Which is an interesting take, since Ventress is long dead at this point in the storyline. Star Wars isn’t known for many flashbacks, but we have been seeing more in recent releases. It’s those beautifully high cheekbones that threw everyone off.
- Rupert Friend – Friend is most known for playing Peter Quinn in Homeland. Fun fact, he stepped in to replace Paul Walker, after his untimely death, as Agent 47 in the most recent Hitman movie adaptation in 2015 Hitman: Agent 47. The original film Hitman, from 2007, being good old Timothy Olyphant (Cobb Vanth in The Mandalorian) Friend could definitely pull off a more action oriented role in the series.
- O’Shea Jackson Jr – Most known for playing his own father, Ice Cube, in the biopic Straight Outta Compton and more recently Anthony Ray Hinton, a wrongfully convicted murder suspect, in Just Mercy. Hoping to see Jackson shine in the galaxy with these high profile roles under his belt!
- Sung Kang – Kang is world renowned for his role as Han in the Fast & Furious franchise! (My personal favorite character of that series since 2006) He has been destined to play a Star Wars role one day though since his F&F character’s full name is literally a SW easter egg- Han Seoul-Oh. Well, it’s one of his aliases at least that we see in Furious 7, his legal surname actually being “Lue.” No word yet on who he will be playing in Kenobi.
- Simone Kessell – Kessell has appeared in a few one off episodes of major US shows including CSI: Miami and Criminal Minds, and had a recurring role in the short-lived series Terra Nova. No current theories on who she will be bringing to the table for the show.
- Benny Safdie – Most known for production (directing, writing, and editing) work with his brother Josh on numerous films including most recently Uncut Gems, starring Adam Sandler and Good Time starring Robert Pattinson, which Safdie also acted in. We’re assuming he is just acting in this and not doing additional production work for the series.
So who’s missing from this list? Who would you like to see in the show. We’re looking at you Jimmy Smits. If we don’t get at least one Holo-message between Obi-Wan and Bail, we have failed.
We’re just hoping we get to see podracing again.
